Pastor Michael F. Crewes Sr., is the Senior Pastor and founder of Amazing Grace Ministries, Montclair, New Jersey (June 2011). Prior to Pastoring Amazing Grace Ministries, he served as Assistant Minister and Director of Christian Education Department at Union Baptist Church, Bloomfield, NJ under the tutelage of Pastor John J. Thomason. It is here that his pastoral ministry was greatly influenced. Pastor Crewes was ordained December 2001.

Pastor Crewes’ academic credentials include a Bachelor of Arts from Caldwell University, Caldwell, New Jersey (2014); Clinical Pastoral Education (1 unit) Overlook Hospital, Summit, New Jersey (2012); Pastoral Ministry Diploma – (Dr. Howard E. Anderson School of Divinity) -Seminary Extension, Nashville, TN (2001). Pastor Crewes also received a certificate from United Chaplin International Worldwide Outreach, Newark, NJ.

Pastor Crewes’ has also served as a volunteer Chaplain at Mountainside-Hackensack Hospital, Glen Ridge, NJ.

Pastor Crewes’ born and raised in Montclair, NJ, is married to Tammy, and they have three adult children.

Amazing Grace Ministries Incorporated was founded by the Reverend Michael F. Crewes Sr., Minister Tammy D. Crewes, and Trustee John E. Crewes and held its inaugural service on the second Sunday in January 2013 at 361 Orange Road in Montclair, New Jersey. Prior to founding Amazing Grace Ministries, he served as Associate Minister at Union Baptist Church. It was during his tenure there that the Lord began to birth the vision for Amazing Grace Ministries.

Not knowing where to start he did nothing. He pushed it to the back of mind. After all he did not have time to focus on starting a new church because he was working a full ime job, going to school part-time, and dealing with debilitating health issues. However, from time to time God would put it in his spirit.

It was during a visit in May 2007 from his mother-in-law, Alice B. Johnson that she prophesied that not only would he have his own church, but that his brother would work along side of him. After much laughter; he dismissed it. Wanting to believe it, but to afraid. He would later realize that this was a confirmation of what God had already shown him.

Unbeknownst to Pastor Crewes, God had been dealing with his wife Minister Tammy Crewes about them starting a new church as well. Interestingly enough, neither Pastor Crewes nor Minister Crewes ever talked about the vision of starting a new church with each other. As Minister Tammy analyzed the situation of starting a new church, she weighed the pros and the cons, and on February 10, 2010, while she was sitting in a church service the Lord spoke to her spirit and said the name of the church will be Amazing Grace Ministries Inc. She diligently wrote this down and kept it in her Bible and in her heart. Sometime during the course of 2010 Pastor Crewes and Minister Crewes “finally” had a conversation about the vision that God had given them about starting a church, at which time Minister Crewes showed Pastor Crewes the paper in her Bible where she had written down the name of the church. While they rejoiced, they began to pray and fast for direction. They were beginning to embrace the vision.

During the Spring semester of 2011 at Caldwell College, Pastor Crewes and Minister Crewes were taking a Business Management class together. The professor showed the film “Field of Dreams”. In part of the film James Earl Jones’ character tells Kevin Costner if he builds the field the people will come. That quote resonated with Minister Crewes, because the one thing that had her perplexed was, “where are we going to get people?” After all, to have a ministry you need people. God told them to get their house in order and HE would send the people. We began our research, and in June 2011 we filed our papers with the State of New Jersey and became Amazing Grace Ministries Inc. Soon after we filed for our 501 (C) 3 status and received confirmation December 2012.

Amazing Grace Ministries began with three members. There were approximately 25 people in the inaugural service. The ministry began with only a praise team (led by Minister Tammy Crewes). From the inception of the ministry we have met every Sunday at 9:30 a.m., and hosting Bible Study on Wednesday’s at 7:00 p.m. Our original motto was “the small church with a big spirit”. Sometime later, we then added the theme “the church with the big spirit”. As the church grew, we added new ministries. We now have a Missionary Ministry, and Christian Education Ministry.

The Missionary Ministry, with the support of the church, partnered with Human Needs Pantry in Montclair, New Jersey, providing clothing and other donations;CUMAC in Paterson, NJ; and MESH in Montclair, NJ providing food for the homeless, Also with the upstart of the Christian Education Ministry we now have Sunday school every Sunday morning at 11:15 a.m.

Since October 4, 2015, we have been having our services at the American Legion, 303 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell, NJ. Currently we have 11 members.
